Building on the momentum of real estate development in Pittsburgh’s bustling Strip District neighborhood and the ongoing redevelopment of the city’s downtown riverfronts, Riverlife and a coalition of public and private partners today released a vision plan for expanding public open space and amenities along the Allegheny Riverfront. The vision plan marks another milestone in Riverlife’s ongoing work since 1999 to build Three Rivers Park, Pittsburgh’s interconnected system of riverfront parks, trails and public open spaces.
The vision for Strip District Riverfront Park focuses on the riverfront between 11th Street near the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and the 31st Street Bridge, and calls for improvements to and an extension of the existing Three Rivers Heritage Trail, new stopping points along the trail for recreation and relaxation, and public amenities to help create a destination riverfront.
